Physiotherapy in Sudan

In 2007 Ahfad University for Women in Omdurman (AUW) and Bergen University College in Bergen (BUC) signed a contract to cooperate on establishing a Bachelor degree in physiotherapy in Sudan . This is the first time that Sudanese women have been able to take this Bachelor degree in Sudan.
The project is funded by Fredskorpset (an office under the Foreign Ministry in Norway). This implies staff exchange between the two educational institutions. Associate professor in physiotherapy Reidar Aarskog is a senior mentor from BUC in this project. He has stayed for 3 months at a time in Sudan, with 3 months breaks in Norway in between. In October 2009 he visited AUW again to see how the project proceeded. As part of the physiotherapy program he very much wants the curriculum to cover Hippotherapy as a means to give important sensory and motor stimuli to people with different neurological diseases or disturbances.
On three occasions he has visited Jane-Anne’s farm and he expresses great enthusiasm as to the importance of her work. “The smile on the children’s faces when they were about to ride on the horse’s back was a great emotional happening to me and my wife” Dr. Aarskog wrote in an email to Jane-Anne after his last visit.
